
Clare Burren Marathon Challenge 2026 – Full Marathon
Race Details
The Clare Burren Marathon Challenge Full Marathon (26.2 miles) takes place on Saturday 23rd May 2026, starting and finishing in the village of Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare.
Route: Leaving Ballyvaughan, after 1 mile take a right up Fineona road. At the top turn left, passing the Burren College of Art, then on to Glenfort, past the ruins of Rathbourney Church, to Poulacapple where you turn left onto the green trail road. The route continues on and off road through the scenic Caher Valley, past the "Ould Sheebeen", and on towards Fanore. At O'Donoghue's Pub, turn right toward Ballyvaughan, taking in part of Fanore beach. The coastal stretch over Blackhead descends at Gleninagh overlooking the castle, then back onto the main road for the final few miles to the finish line in Ballyvaughan.
Surface: Mixed — approximately 4 miles road, 4 miles trail, 4.2 miles road, then alternating trail and road sections, with the last few miles on road back into the village.
Requirements: Participants must be over 16 years of age. Chip timing on route.
