
Famine Way Ultra 2026
Race Details
The Famine Way Ultra takes place on 1st–2nd August 2026, following the historic Famine Way route from Co. Roscommon to Dublin — retracing the desperate journey made by starving Irish people in the 1840s as they fled to Dublin to board coffin ships.
Race options:
50 Mile Ultra — A great introduction to ultra running. The well-marked Famine Way route is easy to follow. You will run alongside 105-mile ultra participants and all finish together at Strokestown Park House (where the Strokestown residents began their journey to Dublin).
- Start: Late evening of Saturday 1st August 2026 (approximately midnight)
- Time limit: 15 hours (must finish by 3:00pm Sunday 2nd August)
- 3 fixed aid stations with water, snacks and drinks
105 Mile Ultra — The full Famine Way journey, starting earlier on Saturday 1st August.
Kit requirements: Fully charged phone with backup battery, race tracker, head torch and spare battery, tail light, warm long-sleeve top, hat or buff, gloves, waterproof jacket, 1 litre water capacity, sufficient food between aid stations.
Pacers/Buddies: Strictly not allowed unless entered in the event.
Facilities: Fully insured event, bespoke medal, trained medics in attendance, full tracking throughout.
