Race Details

The Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon is the only road marathon held in the Wicklow Mountains National Park, and takes place on the penultimate Saturday of May. It began as a fundraiser for local club Glendalough AC and has grown to over 800 competitors across the marathon and half-marathon distances.

Course: A classic cycling loop reimagined for runners — precisely 42.2km of challenge and beauty. The route climbs clockwise from Glendalough, past the stunning Glenmacnass Waterfall, over Sally Gap, and down through Lough Tay (the Guinness Lake) and the quiet backroads of Drummin and Oldbridge. This is not a PB course — it's a feast for the senses.

Start: Glendalough village (near the Lakes) Finish: Trooperstown Resource Centre, Ballinastoe, Glendalough, Co. Wicklow

Course profile: Hilly and tough but scenic and rewarding. Natural sights include the Glendalough Lakes, Glenmacnass Waterfall, and Lough Tay. Single loop course.

Entry is limited to 600 places.

What's included: Printed race bib, medal, chip timing, food & refreshments, camp prizes, finisher photo.

Registration closes: Approximately 28 May (check website for exact date)

Distances: Marathon (€80) and Half Marathon (€40)

Entry: worldsmarathons.com
